The senior instructors of the Academy of Historical Arts believe that tournaments and competitions are healthy for the reconstruction of historical European martial arts. Such events provide the opportunity for competitors to "pressure test" their skills against their peers from across the organisation, and sometimes from outwith the Academy.

We tend to run several small, regional tournaments each year. In the next year or two it is expected that there will be enough practitioners across Scotland to be able to run a proper national level tournament for those who do well in the regional tournaments.

In the Academy, we spend a lot of time training referees and judges to be able to administrate effectively and fairly in tournaments. As a result, our competitions tend to run to time and without any serious complaints.
